Breast augmentation is one of the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures. If you are not satisfied with your breast size, breast implant surgery is a choice to consider. Breast implants can enhance shape, volume, and projection of your breasts while improving the balance of your figure.
Also known as augmentation mammaplasty, the procedure involves using implants to create fuller breasts or to restore breast volume lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.

Breast Augmentation FAQs with Dr Shoukas:
Your Breast Implant Consultation
During your consultation in our Lake Mary office, Dr. Shoukas will discuss your goals and expectations along with likely outcomes and any potential risks or complications. The success and safety of your breast implant depends very much on your being completely honest during your consultation. Any problems, concerns or questions you may have can be addressed by Dr. Shoukas at this time.
During your consultation, you should be prepared to discuss:
Dr. Shoukas will examine and take detailed measurements of your breasts and may also take photographs for your medical record.
What Breast Augmentation won’t do
Breast augmentation does not correct drooping breasts. If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a mastopexy (breast lift) may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation.
A Breast lift can often be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation. Dr Shoukas will assist you in making this decision.
Are Breast Implants Safe?
Careful review of scientific research has found no proven link between breast implants and autoimmune or other systemic diseases. There is no evidence that implants increase the risk of breast cancer or any other condition. Most women can breast feed after breast augmentation.
Is Breast Augmentation right for me?
Breast augmentation is a highly individualized procedure and extremely personal decision. For many women, breast size and shape is an important aspect of overall body image. Pictures of breast augmentation procedures performed by Dr. Shoukas may help you in the decision-making process.
Breast implants may be right for you if:
Anesthesia for Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is usually performed in the operating room under general anesthesia. This procedure is not preformed in our Lake Mary Plastic Surgery office.
Recovery from Breast Augmentation
Dr. Shoukas will recommend rest for the first few days following surgery. You may feel sore and tired during this time. Most discomfort associated with breast surgery can be treated with oral pain medication. Dr. Shoukas may also prescribe an antibiotic. You may experience mild swelling, tenderness, and bruising that should subside after a short time. Depending on occupation, most patients may resume work within the first week. Regular physical activity may be resumed after six weeks.
Other important considerations:
As breast implants are not guaranteed to last a lifetime, future surgery may be required for replacement of one or both implants and over the course of your lifetime, certain factors such as weight loss and menopause may influence the appearance of augmented breasts
