In most cases Dr. Shoukas will place drains following surgery. These drains evacuate the fluid that accumulates after surgery and enable you to heal faster.
How to Care for Your Drains:
• You must “strip the tubing” to prevent clogging. This will be demonstrated for you by Dr. Shoukas and the nursing staff.
• After emptying drains, squeeze the bulb and close top of bulb to place drain on suction
• It is important to keep a daily written record of the drain outputs, and these will need to be brought with you when you come in for your post-op visits, as this log will determine when Dr. Shoukas removes the drains.
• Print Drainage Chart
